The Godfather

The mise-en-scene in this opening shows us a group of men sitting and talking in a dark room, darkness is a convention of unhappiness/secrecy/fear so this could mean that the film will be about/involve all these things. Furthermore the men in the room are all well dressed which connotes that they are well off or rich. The sound in this opening allows us to hear a man talking about how his daughter was brutally attacked by a group of drunk men, this could mean that we could see more voilent acts in this film or this film will be about that violent attack on the man duaghter. The camera shows us an over the shoulder shot of the Godfather when the man is talking about his daughter, this means the man is talking to the Godfather. The editing techniques show us a reaction shot of the godfather after the man asks him to gives justice and kill those who attacked his daughter.

Troy

The editing techniques of this film allow us to see what the film is about, we see some text that tells us the film is was set 3200 years ago in Greece, so this tells us the film is set in the time before christ (B.C). It also makes us aware that a war is going to take place between the armies of Greece and Thessaly. Secondly the camera shows us an establishing shot, this shot allwos us to see the hundreds of soldiers that will fight in this war. The sounds also helps to make the auidence aware of just how many men are going to fight in the war because the loud marching and chanting we hear before battle. The mise-en-scene in this opening allows us to see the fight that takes place between the best greek fighter (Achilles) and the best fighter from Thessaly (Boagrious), we see Achilles kill Boagrious and since this film is about war this surely will not be the only death we see.

Filming

My group and i started to film for the first time today at our chosen location which is the triangle in Balham, I found this recording session as being a very productive one as we have completed the majority of it, all we have to do now is film the last part and then we will be finished.

Audience research- questionnaire

1. How do you watch films?
2. What genre of film do you like?
3. Do you like thrillers?
4. How often do you watch thrillers?
5. What does a film (thriller) need to do to grab your attention and make you watch it?
6. What do you expect to see in a thriller?
7. Which thrillers have you seen recently and who areyour favorite characters?
8. What is it you like about those thrillers?
This is somewhere that i thought would be suitable for us to film as it look like a quiet place that will have a lot of places to hide things which is exactly what we need for our opening sequence.

RAMBO 4

In this opening sequence the camera show us a long shot of people being killed, this long shot allows us to see the vast amount of people that were being killed at the time. We see a lot of cuts from one chaotic scene to the next, this is an editing technique and it helps the audience to see that there is a lot going on. The mise-en-scene allows us to see the dead bodies and people being shot at, this could mean  that we will see a lot of killing in this film or it could mean that the film will be about the killing that we have just seen. The sound allows us to hear the people shouting and screaming this shows us that the people are scared as shouting/screaming is a convention of fear.
